Evan Rachel Wood Denies Pressuring Marilyn Manson Accuser to Make False Allegations

Evan Rachel Wood has denied pressuring Ashley Morgan Smithline to make false allegations against Marilyn Manson in response to Smithline's recent recantation of her previous statements. In a declaration filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Wood stated that she had no contact with Smithline prior to a survivors' meeting filmed for the HBO documentary Phoenix Rising on October 21, 2020.

Wood went on to state that she had never met or communicated with Smithline before the latter commented on one of Wood's social media posts in March 2019, in which the actress discussed the abuse she allegedly suffered at Manson's hands. Wood included social media interactions between herself and Smithline in her court filing, claiming that they showed she had not influenced Smithline's allegations against Manson or her subsequent retraction.

In her own court filing, Smithline had previously accused Wood and others of pressuring her to make false accusations of sexual and physical abuse against Manson, but later recanted those accusations. Manson is currently suing Wood and Illma Gore, and the dueling filings are part of that lawsuit.

Wood's court filing also included screenshots of alleged Instagram private messages between herself and Smithline, in which Smithline appeared to express distress over Wood's accusations against Manson. Wood denied pressuring or manipulating Smithline and reiterated that Smithline had contacted her first in 2019.

The Manson case has brought to light numerous allegations of abuse and misconduct against the musician, who has denied the allegations. The case is ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming weeks and months.
